Dining tables and chairs are some of the most important pieces of furniture in your home. They serve as a gathering place for friends and family, where meals are shared and memories are made. Choosing the perfect dining table and chairs set can be a daunting task, with so many styles, sizes, and materials to choose from. In this guide, we’ll take you through everything you need to know to find the perfect set for your home.

Consider the Size of Your Space

Before you start looking at dining table and chairs sets, it’s important to consider the size of your space. You’ll want to choose a set that fits comfortably in your dining area without feeling too cramped or too spread out. Measure your space and keep those measurements in mind as you shop. You’ll also want to consider the size of your family or the number of guests you typically host when selecting a table size.

Determine Your Style

There are many different styles of dining tables and chairs to choose from, including modern, traditional, farmhouse, and more. Determine the style that fits your home décor and personal taste. If you’re unsure of your style, look at pictures online or in magazines to get inspiration. Keep in mind that your dining table and chairs set should complement the rest of your home décor.

Decide on Material

Dining tables and chairs can be made from a variety of materials including wood, glass, metal, and more. Each material has its own unique qualities that can contribute to the look and feel of your dining area. Wooden tables and chairs are sturdy and classic, while glass tables can create a modern and elegant feel. Metal is a popular choice for its durability and industrial look.

Look for Quality and Durability

Dining tables and chairs are an investment, so you’ll want to make sure you’re getting a set that is of high quality and will last for years to come. Look for sets made from durable materials and with sturdy construction. Avoid sets that feel flimsy or are made with cheap materials that will quickly wear down.

Think About Comfort

Comfort is key when it comes to dining chairs. You’ll want chairs that are comfortable for your family and guests to sit in for extended periods of time. Consider chairs with padded seats and backs or ones with ergonomic designs. You may also want to look for chairs that are adjustable to accommodate different heights.

Set a Budget

Dining tables and chairs sets can vary greatly in price, so it’s important to set a budget before you start shopping. Determine how much you’re willing to spend and stick to it. Keep in mind that a higher price tag doesn’t always mean better quality, so do your research and compare prices before making a purchase.

Read Reviews

Before making a final decision on a dining table and chairs set, read reviews from other customers who have purchased the same set. Reviews can provide valuable insight into the quality, durability, and comfort of a set. Look for sets with positive reviews and avoid ones with negative feedback.

Conclusion

In conclusion, finding the perfect dining table and chairs set takes time and careful consideration. By following these tips and doing your research, you’ll be able to select a set that fits your space, style, and budget, while also providing comfort and durability for years to come.

Top 5 Useful Tips To Organise Your Dressing Table

Top 5 Useful Tips To Organise Your Dressing Table

What is a dressing table first of all? Well a dressing table is a table or stand, usually a mirror is mounted above it and  in front of which a person usually a female sits while dressing, applying makeup, or brushing her hair. If you have only started looking for a dressing table  it’s always a good idea to find one that has lots of drawers, big or small, the more the merrier!

Your dressing table might be the first thing you look at in the morning placed in the bedroom or even at the end of a hallway. No matter the location, if you want to dress to impress, your dressing table can’t be a mess. This is one of the best ways to organise a dresser as it allows you to fit a lot of things into small spaces and have them all organised at the same time. You can have your jewellery in one drawer, hair accessories in another and underwear in another separate drawer. It’s a win-win no matter how you look at it! Here are the Top 5 Useful Tips To Organise Your Dressing Table.

  1. If you’re serious about your dressing table, you’ll have at least one large mirror and a smaller zoom mirror for makeup detail work. If you want to get fancy, you can put another mirror on a mount so that you can swing it out. These mounts are a bit expensive but can help your organisational scheme by keeping one more thing out of the way when it’s not in use. As far as your largest mirror goes, it’s the centrepiece of your dressing table set. Make sure that there isn’t anything that blocks your frontal view of the mirror.

  2. Accessories are pretty-looking. There are plenty of ways to put them on display: use transparent boxes or simple trays to organise your jewellery, bracelets or head pieces. We all know that if you hide them inside the drawers, you just won’t wear them! One of the best dressing table organiser ideas is to add some flowers. They really liven up the mood in the room, look good with accessories and plus, they smell really nice.

  3. The first thing you should do is choose the things you use the most and put them within hand’s reach. Think about your everyday routine and the stuff you need first thing in the morning and put them on display. Whether it’s a bottle of your favourite perfume or a box filled with cosmetics. After all, it’s your room!

  4. Small tables are also great as they allow you to experiment with style and design. If you don’t have a lot of space, use the wall! For example, you can put a big mirror in front of your dresser and have more space on the table for your things. Also think about using a modern lamp with a thin design and a separate shelf for books.

  5. Lighting is one of the first things you need to think about. If your dressing table is dark, you’ll need to introduce some proper light. You can’t be expected to do your makeup with precision if you can’t see. Use candles for a more cozy and romantic feel or modern lamps to create a contrast with your table’s design. And don’t forget you can use chandeliers and floor lamps! The best lighting will combine natural lighting with a series of small lights which surround your biggest mirror. Make sure that the switch for your lights is easy to reach and that the cable is nestled behind the table itself, so you don’t trip over it.

Now that your dressing table is well-organised, your morning and evening routines will be more efficient. You may even have a few extra minutes in the morning to eat breakfast if you’ve done a fantastic organisational job.For your dressing table to remain organised, you’ll need to keep putting stuff back in the places you designated for them to go.

Don’t be surprised if you need to reorganise your dressing table once in a while…

Tips on Buying a Lounge Chair

Tips on Buying a Lounge Chair

A Lounge Chair also known as a chaise longue is an upholstered sofa in the shape of a chair that is long enough to support the legs. In modern French the term chaise longue can refer to any long reclining chair such as a deckchair. A literal translation in English is long chair.

Lounge chairs have been around for thousands of years, although for much of that time, they were playthings of the wealthy.  You can find depictions of chairs that could accurately be described as Chaise Lounges in Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs and in Roman murals, depicting wealthy aristocrats lounging and enjoying life.

The Lounge Chair as the term is understood today can trace its origins back to 1928, and was invented by Marcel Breuer, of Hungary.  His original design was crafted from tubular steel, plated in chrome, and upholstered with leather.

The Lounge chair has many meanings over the years as they specifically do not recline. As they are built in a permanently reclined position that cannot be adjusted by the user, which is the key feature that differentiates them from recliners. This definition, however, has become muddied over time, especially in the United States, with the famous Eames Lounge Chair in 1956. The Eames Lounge Chair has arms and the user can control the rate of recline.

To confuse people even more, the Recliner and Lounge Chair have come to be increasingly interchangeable.

A Lounge Chair is more than just a piece of furniture. Lounge chairs are where we retreat to at the end of a long day, curl up with our favourite book or take a nap on a Sunday afternoon. They’re spaces we feel drawn to and claim as our own. Which is why when it comes to choosing one for your homes, it’s important to get it right. Lounge chairs come in all different shapes and sizes so you’ll be able to find one that fits your home perfectly in our collection. Lounge chairs are used for lounging and leisure.  They’re not designed for work or productivity, but rather for relaxation. Sometimes, they are found in business environments and these days are most often found in modern homes.

Depending on the style of your interior or how you prefer to relax, some types of lounge chair may be more suitable for you than others. Before you start shopping, it’s a good idea to think carefully about how and where it will be used and what you’d like from your new showpiece furniture.

Different Types of Lounge Chairs

The lounge chair has morphed and changed over time, so that today, if we abided by the strictest definition of the term, some chairs that self-identify as loungers (like the Eames Lounge Chair) would not meet the strictest definition of the term.

Reclining Lounge Chair

If your new lounge chair is destined to be the main seat in your living room, you’ll want to choose a design that’s flexible and offers a supreme level of comfort. This is where our luxury recliners and lounge chairs with matching ottomans come in. You’ll be able to stretch out, put your feet up and generally make yourself at home in their generously proportioned frames.

Rocking Lounge Chair
If you’re comforted by a little movement when lounging, then one of our rocking chairs is the answer.

Traditional Classic Lounge Chair

Armless chairs in a permanently reclined position, with an ottoman, that meet the strictest definition of the term.

Chaise Lounges

Translated literally, this means “Long Chair” and is best described as a lounge chair that’s long enough to stretch out completely without having to use an ottoman.

Arm Chairs

Armchairs are simple, padded chairs with two arms.  You can certainly still find them, but they’ve long been eclipsed by recliners, which are more versatile and in general, more comfortable.

The Eames Lounge Chair

While Breuer’s design was wildly popular in Europe, the Lounge Chair wasn’t popularised in the United States until 1953 when Charles and Ray Eames designed the famous Eames Lounger for the Herman Miller Furniture Company.  These chairs were originally made from plywood, with an aluminum base and were upholstered with leather.

Image: Eames Lounge Chair

Club Chairs

Club Chairs inspired the Eames Lounge Chair. These chairs can be identified by their low backs and deep seats and gained popularity in English Gentlemen’s Clubs in the 18th Century.

Wing Chairs

These stand in stark contrast with club chairs and are noted for their high backs and wings which are designed to keep drafts of air from the sitter’s back.  Most are overstuffed and incredibly comfortable. They gained popularity in English Gentlemen’s Clubs in the 19th Century.

Poolside Loungers

In addition to these, you could also consider lounge chairs designed for outdoor use  or poolside loungers at the swimming pool or beach.

Tight on space?

Lounge chairs come in all different shapes and sizes so you’ll be able to find one that fits your home perfectly in our collection. If you’re short on space, consider a design with petite proportions to avoid overpowering your room.

Material

Now that you know what type of lounge chair you’re looking for, you can start to think about the material.

Leather Lounge Chair

Leather has a luxurious look and feel and is exceptionally durable. Over time it will soften, whilst still retaining its shape and strength, and develop a gorgeous patina that will keep getting better with age. Leather can come in a variety of colours, including natural tan, black and white.

Fabric Lounge Chair

We offer a wide range of fabrics for our upholstered chairs, including different types of wool as well as velvet and sheepskin options. Fabric lounge chairs are soft, welcoming and have a gorgeous tactility.

Wood, metal and plastic Lounge Chair

We also offer wood, metal and plastic lounge chairs, each which will bring a unique personality to your space.

Swatches are available to help you reach a decision. Get in touch and we’ll be happy to source for you.

Colour choice

Colour choice is personal to each individual, but there are some shades that work better than others in certain scenarios. For example, darker colours are ideal if your lounge chair is destined for a high traffic area, or if you have a young family or pet. Paler shades work really well in minimalist interiors and bright shades can help create a focal point in your home.

How to care for your lounge chair

Once you’ve introduced your new lounge chair into your home, you’ll want to make sure it continues to look as wonderful as when you first bought it. The following suggestions are recommended for general care, but for more specific instructions, please always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Direct sunlight or heat can cause minor fading to your upholstery, especially when it comes to materials such as cotton and linen. We all love to bask in the sun but ensuring that your lounge chair isn’t exposed to sunlight when unnecessary is definitely well-worthwhile. To avoid ingrained stains or dulling, we recommend that you lightly brush or vacuum your lounge chair weekly. If you do accidentally stain the upholstery, then most materials can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth, with the exception of delicate materials such as 100% soft wool. For leather lounge chairs, you can remove light scratches by gently buffing with a slightly damp cloth.

Now that you have a good idea of the type, material and colour of your lounge chair, it’s handy to run through a few final practical questions before making your purchase. After all, your lounge chair will be with you for many years to come.

Some things to consider…Is it the right shape for the way you like to sit and relax? Will it fit comfortably in the space you have available? Does it coordinate with the rest of your furnishings and décor? Is it practical for how you live day-to-day?

Top 7 Tips To Improve Your Home

Top 7 Tips To Improve Your Home

Need to give your home a refresh? Here’s a few simple ways to beautify your home. Is your home looking a little tired/messy/scruffy? Feel like you need a few easy tricks to make your home look pretty and welcoming? Here are 7 small changes in making your home look pretty!

1. Declutter

This is a simple, but good option. If you are like me for example a hoarder and cannot bear to throw things out, now is the best time to do this. No excuses! Almost everybody has these little spots of clutter a box over here, a pile of papers over there. You may barely even notice these things, because you’re so used to seeing them.  From sorting out clutter on the kitchen worktops to making sure all the kids toys are stored away in the cupboard, this is an easy, cost-free way of ensuring your home looks good. Plus it will make your home spacious, minimal and less is more as they say!

A neat trick I’ve found for spotting clutter that you can no longer see? Take a picture of your home. This will help you see it through new eyes, and maybe inspire you to find permanent homes for things that are sitting out.

By removing one or two items creates a more breathable, relaxing atmosphere, and gives the things that are left a chance to really shine. This doesn’t mean you have to get rid of the things you love. You can move them to another room, or put them in storage, and then rotate them back in (and take something else out) when you’re ready for a change.

2. They say they come in threes

As soon as you start displaying items in a group of three they begin to look like an edited selection of items that have been carefully curated.

3. Plump up your cushions

Whether it’s on your bed or your sofa, plumping up your cushions will make the world of difference. Everything will look fresh, pretty and stylish.

4. Use scented candles

There are many reasons to love  fragrant accessories. For a start they look good on any shelf or mantelpiece, but also they give your home a wonderful scent which makes it feel inviting, appealing and cosy.

5. Embrace the diagonal

One way to make a room a little more exciting is to use shapes, diagonal or geometric. You can try this with furniture pieces like accent chairs or rugs. There is no rule that says everything has to sit on a grid. By looking at your home like a stylist, you can unlock the potential that’s been there all along…

Image: Thanos Pal-unsplash

6. Fresh flowers

Fresh flowers instantly brighten up a room. A touch of the natural adds liveliness and texture to a room, and can help to soften the lines of a modern space. Simply choose your chosen blooms and bunch stems together with ribbons and lace for a pretty and beautiful look.

Flowers are always wonderful to have in a space. They add a natural element to a space that is always refreshing. Visually, they add another layer of colour that can act as a pop to brighten a room or match other colours in the space as a way of pulling everything together.

Having fresh flowers all the time could get a bit expensive, but you can achieve the same effect with a houseplant, which is a (hopefully) one-time purchase.

7. Re-style your coffee table

If your coffee table is currently full of mountains of paperwork, think about re-styling it. Pick a pile of arty hardback books and display them on the table or use a round tray and fill with candles, trinkets and small flower-filled vases.

Hot Tips on buying a dining table and chairs

Hot Tips on Buying a Dining Table and Chairs

They say a dining table is at the heart of the home. It’s a place where friends and family can come together, sit down and enjoy some tasty food. So if you feel like your dining room needs a bit of a makeover or deserves some TLC, you’ve come to the right place! Here are some top tips for the things you should consider…

Be careful about trends. A good table should last at least five to 10 years. If you get something too funky, wild, with too many weird details, one day you may wake up and wonder what on earth you were thinking?!?!. Do think about the daily practice use of the table. Keep it simple, durable and sturdy.

Along with affordability and a timeless style, stability and construction are important to look for when inspecting tables at furniture stores. Try and sit on these chairs when you go to a showroom or a shop. Touch the table and chairs. Think about how it feels to sit at one of those tables, whether it will be comfortable for long periods and examine floor models for signs of wear.  Look for nicks and scratches that may indicate how the tables would endure through serious use at home.

Use your measuring tape. Your dining table has to fit your dining area! But a dining table is a deceptively large piece of furniture and you need to account for space around it, too.

You want the table to be three feet of breathing room on all sides. More is better to comfortably sit in a chair and move around the space. So whether it’s part of a multi use space or a separate dining room, start by measuring the length and width of the area you can dedicate to the dining table. Then subtract about six feet from those two measurements to get a target dining table length and width.

Next, think about how you’re going to use the table. The visual weight of a piece of furniture can really influence how big it feels in a room. It may technically fit, but it’ll seem huge if it’s a dark or bulky piece or if it’s too close to other furniture.

Table Shapes

Square and rectangular tables are the most popular shapes, so you’ll find the greater number of choices there with styles, sizes and extendable options. But a round or oval table can give you a little more space to move around since it cuts off the corners but still has a good surface area. A square or round dining table will create a more intimate dining setting as everyone will be sat equally apart, making it a great choice for sociable dining. It can be great for parties and conversation because there’s no head of the table. In terms of squeezing people in, you’re only limited by the perimeter of the table but you can lose a little space for serving pieces once you have all your place settings at a round or oval table.

Choosing the material for your dining table can be difficult. You have to balance price, ease of care, and your personal style to choose the right one, and a table that’s not a good fit on any of those could mean a buying decision you regret later. Here are the most common materials, and what to consider for each:

Wood

Solid wood is a classic material because it is durable and easy to repair. Pine, acacia, mango and teak are popular, less expensive options. Solid wood is the most popular, though it’s often the most expensive. Wood expands and contracts with heat and humidity and can show scratches and wear, but is fairly easy to repair.

Wood veneer is often a more affordable alternative to solid wood. Here a very thin layer of solid wood (or material printed to look like wood) is glued to a plywood or other wood core. To identify good veneer, look for tables with clearly-labelled core interiors, like kiln-dried hardwood. One way to spot cheaper veneers is to look underneath the table at the store. If just the outside is finished, but the underneath looks like a different material, the manufacturer is cutting costs

Stone

Stone tabletops can include marble, quartz composite or cast stone (like cement). Stone is durable but can be porous and can absorb stains easily. Depending on how it’s made, it can chip or crack and once that happens, it can be tough or impossible to repair. They can also be quite heavy. The price of stone can really vary from thousands of pounds…

Glass

Glass tabletops can include clear, frosted or tinted versions. They’re relatively inexpensive and “can create a feeling of space and openness. It can also make a room look bigger if you in a flat/apartment. Though glass isn’t susceptible to moisture, it can chip, scratch or crack from heat. It also shows every fingerprint. A good glass tabletop can last decades if you’re not too clumsy, but it will start to look bad quickly if you’re prone to chipping the edges or scratching the tabletop.

Metal

Including stainless steel, brass, zinc and lacquered or painted versions of these, is used more frequently for table bases than tops. Metal is durable and not easily damaged because of its higher-shine, it shows every fingerprint and can require special cleaning tools. Also, painted metals can be hard to repair. These can be less expensive than wood tables, though it’s rare to find an all-metal dining table beyond utility tables.

Plastic and Laminates

Man-made materials, either moulded into a shape or glued onto plywood or another core, are an inexpensive option. They can last a long time. A glossy or matt table finish will instantly create a clean-lined a crisp look. These materials tend to resist staining and require little upkeep, but sometimes they can look cheap.

Finally…

A good dining table will be sturdy and well-made with a finish that withstands heavy use and shows little obvious wear and tear. The material is a major part of good construction, check carefully how the base and tabletop fit together. The more solid this is, the longer the table will last. Wood joined directly with wood is very strong; too many attachments and hooks can weaken the construction. A rule of thumb, simpler is better. Look at the connection points where the legs meet the tabletops and at the corners. If the pieces are starting to separate, you see gaps at the corners, or it’s wobbly when you move it, it’s not well constructed.

It’s rare that when buying dining chairs, you’ll buy just one. It is not necessary to always buy tables and chairs as a set. If you are starting from scratch and buying online, feel free to mix and match. In a small space in a small house, flat or apartment, buying extra chairs and using them in other rooms when you don’t need them at the table is a great way to save space.

Buying a set of dining chairs should always reflect how you use your dining room on a daily basis, including the number of people and the types of meals enjoyed there. You may have kids and eat every meal at the table. Therefore, an upholstered fabric might prove impractical for cleaning up spillages. On the other hand, you might like to entertain and host dinner parties for your adult friends. If that’s the case, an upholstered set may be a more comfortable and stylish option.

Make sure you use placemats and coasters each mealtime if you want to protect your table surface and keep it looking its best for longer.

Furniture stores and online are renowned for constantly having sales and clearances. Always make sure you know to check back on your favourite dining table and chairs several times before buying! When investing in furniture, you’re probably going to be spending a lot of money. So, it makes sense to research around the prices you’re paying.

Keep a bookmark of any table and chairs you’re interested in and check before actually hitting buy. It’s also worth looking out for tables that come with a set of dining chairs, you can kill two birds with one stone or not! Most importantly, you have to make sure the style of table and chairs is correct for your dining room interior and that you are happy.

Remember: When purchasing your dining room furniture, don’t compromise on quality. Cheaper is not always better!
